Delis and Diners

CAPITAL CITY DINER - 460 HUNT CLUB RD. (at Merivale) - 727-2675

We went to the Capital City Diner with a family group (from grandparents in their 80's to teenaged grandson). The ambiance is '50's diner', and you almost feel you have stepped into the 'Happy Days' television set. The music alone will take you back to the 50's.

The milkshakes were great -- made with real ice cream (not soft ice cream). The fries tasted real -- like they were fairly recently potatoes. The food was not spectacular, but certainly plentiful and acceptable. The grandparents found there was way too much for them to finish (the teenager, just barely out of his teens, and his older brother had no difficulty finishing their food). The menu emphasizes burgers and sandwiches; there are daily specials as well. The hot fudge sundae was as good as the milkshakes, but I'd give the carrot cake a miss next time.

$70 for six, including 2 desserts
