French Cuisine

LE PANACHE RESTAURANT - 201 EDDY ST., HULL - 777-7771

There is a Le Panache restaurant over in Hull, at the North end of Eddy street. I went for lunch a few days ago with a group of friends. I would label their cuisine as international (or "fusion") with a French bias (i.e. dishes from all over the gastronomic world enhanced with classic sauces).

They have a daily table d'hote (14.00$) including soup or entree, main dish and dessert plus coffee or tea. For example, I had an invigorating sweet pepper & dried tomato squirted with olive oil, spicy merguez sausages on couscous with hollandaise sauce and a voluptuous raspberry mousse cake on coulis. The menu has variety and imagination, with at least 6 or 7 choices for each service. Plates are also elegantly composed (not unlike at Le Toque's in Montreal, but not as costly). House wines and a short list of vintages are available, as well as three bottled beers: Cronenbourg, Tuborg and Heineken. Excellent house coffee and expresso.

My lunch, rather a full-blown dejeuner, was superb and first-class in every respect. Service was friendly (sometimes even funny) and professional. Prices are reasonable considering quality. The five of us agreed: another great table in our region and a place to remember. We look forward to going back...for dinner ! I hope you'll enjoy it too. Bon appetit !
