Greek Cuisine

PILOS - 876 MONTRAL ROAD - 741-4657

Pilos is a very good bet for delicious souvlaki and other Greek treats. Their grilled items are hard to beat for tastiness. Portions are generous and besides the complimentary garlic bread, there is a good selection of appetizers available.

If you've always wanted to try octopus, this is a good place to venture out. The grilled octopus appetizer is very tender and tasty.

There are luncheon specials at reasonable prices. Friday lunch is pretty well always very busy so, unless you arrive early, reservations are recommended at least on that day.

Decor is attractive, service friendly and attentive. This establishment easily rivals the better known Greek restaurants in the Ottawa area.

My friends and I continue to eat at Pilos regularly and they're still maintaining the food quality and service we've come to expect. The high customer traffic they keep having there tells it all. I've tried Papagus recently and I didn't find it as good as Pilos and neither did the two friends I was with.

PAPAGUS - 281 KENT ST. - 233-3626

Just recently stopped in for the first time with a friend. Excellent service, friendly, well-timed, very knowledgeable. Really nice food. Both of us are vegetarians; we were surprised at how much we got to choose from, and how much we got: good hommus, good stuffed grape leaves (and he brought extra since `they were small'), good spinach & feta in phyllo: all of these are favourites of mine and `good' is much more superlative here than it sounds.

We also got a vegetable dish, a [something I forget] a la papagus. my friend's first comment was amazement at how good the eggplant in it was (no bitterness, tender skin).very nicely spiced, w/just the right amount of feta on top.

We both left stuffed, I had beer, and the pre-tip post-tax bill was about $32.

I noticed a take-out counter for some of the things I've mentioned (and others), and will likely be dropping in to take advantage of it sooner rather than later; I became a stuffed-grape-leaf addict after living across the street from `Boushey's' for too long, and these ones were *very* good.
