ROSES CAFE - 523 GLADSTONE - 233-5574 (INDIAN/VEGGIE FRIENDLY)
My only complaint is that it's a little busy sometimes; perhaps I should stop posting about it here... ;^)

The Roses serves up excellent food and ambience at very good prices. There is always a very large selection of curries as "special" curries in addition to the lengthy menu. The vegetarian options are listed BEFORE the non-vegetarian ones on this menu!

PAINTED POTATO - 167 LAURIER AVE. E. - 234-7299
The food is excellent, reasonably priced, and the decor very light and simple. The music is uplifting and non invasive to the conversation. The staff is always kind and they are happy to explain the menu and how to order from the board. The people who eat there are quick with a nod, smile and kind word.
The drawback (that also helps keep the cost down) is that it is self serve, and if you forget to get your silverware and water you have to remember to ask the waitress or get it yourself. A small price to pay for a first class meal at student prices!

CHEZ NAM (VIETNAMESE/VEGGIE FRIENDLY) - 343 B BOOTH - 230-4662
Their vegetarian menu is endless and the food contains no MSG (although the spices they add might have some).
In my life, I have been disappointed with Vietnamese resturants and wondered how a country can live on such boring fare as rice noodles and veggie sprigs.
This food makes you glad that the Chez Nam is in Ottawa. When you go down the stairs to enter the restaurant you must pass a small Buddist altar. It shows the respect and relevance to life that they bring to the food.
The service is excellent. This is a family resturant, with all of the pride it brings. The waitresses are comely and efficient.
